Thank you to Heidi the Pit Bull rescuer!

So often we are contacted by good Samaritans who have found a dog and ask us to take the dog in. We are very rarely able to help in this capacity. We were contacted a few days ago by Heidi from Kennesaw about a pretty Pit Bull that she rescued from busy traffic. Heidi went above and beyond to help this sweet girl. She searched high and low for the dog's owner, had her checked for a microchip, and offered to cover the cost of her vet care if we were able to accept the dog. She even filmed and emailed us several video clips showing just how wonderfully behaved this dog is! The good news is, another rescue org was able to take her in today! We want to acknowledge Heidi for all that she did to ensure the welfare of this Pit Bull! We need more animal advocates out there like you, Heidi! Tribute to Bambi

Unfortunately, human beings are capable of unspeakable cruelty. This is Bambi, a beautiful young Chihuahua mix. Someone broke her leg and her tailbone and threw her in a dumpster. She was rescued when someone informed animal control about the incident. Her abuser is now in jail. Bambi spent 6 weeks in our care, but was suffering from too many medical complications, which were unable to be helped. This led to the decision to have her humanely put to sleep. So today, we would like to honor Bambi and all that she represents: the brave and strong who learn to overcome, to forgive and to love, despite the evil acts they endure. Bambi was a spry, affectionate little girl who loved to play and had a truly wonderful spirit. She is buried in our front garden.

Atlanta Pet Expo!

We met Shorty Rossi, star of the Animal Planet show "Pit Boss" at the Atlanta Pet Expo! He was wonderful. He agreed to help us promote Reese, the Pit/Hound mix below. Reese is available for adoption and very much deserves a loving home! See our Adoptable Pets tab to read more about her ...

The 7 year old daughter of a good friend of ours chose to gather donations for Bliss for her birthday, rather than get gifts herself! Thank you, Mackenzie, for all the wonderful treats, food, and supplies you brought to our rescue doggies here at Bliss! It's wonderful to see a young animal lover - keep up the good work!

We want to give a big shout out to Lindsey and Julie who organized and ran our bowling fundraiser event!! They raised enough money to cover more than half of the cost of our rescue van! Whoohoo! We couldn't ask for two more motivated, resourceful, sweet young women to be a part of Bliss! Thank you! And thanks to all those who came bowling - it was fun!

Our new doggie!

We have a new doggie named Rose, a rescue from Gwinnett County Animal Control! She is pure perfection and a true match made in heaven for us and our home. Rose is a 3 lb Chihuahua, half blind with a broken "pig" tail, with a spirit and personality to die for. She follows Nancy everywhere and can fit in a purse! This mild-mannered beauty is bringing us so much joy, we just had to show her off!

Change of direction ...

After attending the Animal Care Expo in Nashville, we are considering a change of direction with Bliss. We want to focus more on more fragile pets in need, including puppy mill rescue dogs and also seniors or those with medical issues from local animal control centers. Our household seems to be very suited for that type of rescue work. So you may start seeing that reflected soon in our population of foster dogs available for adoption! Holiday Adoptions weekend!

The holiday adoption was a great event, despite the cold, and we appreciate Karen Dean with the Walton Animal Guild for all her efforts, advertising, coordination, and for allowing Bliss to be a part of it. Below are some pictures -

The four of us- from left to right - Jessie, Travis, Katherine, and Nancy with all 5 of our dogs: Red (Greyhound), Xena (long-haired Chihuahua), Mona (Pit Bull), Vince (Chow/Border Collie), and Camo (Dachshund /Chihuahua). That's our good friend and Bliss volunteer, Isaac, as Santa!

Albert is a high school senior who found us on Volunteer Match (www.volunteermatch.org) and decided to give 5 hours of his time at adoptions tending to the doggies, making sure they did not knock over their pens, cleaning up pee, walking dogs, and chatting with potential adopters. He was so kind and gentle with the dogs, and we really enjoyed having him with us!

One of our volunteers, Mary, loving on Lady. Mary sat in the pen with Lady like this for a while to help show off Lady's personality and it worked! Lady was adopted by a loving family early in the day. Thanks, Mary!

Nancy cuddled up with Willie Rae and Oscar. These little ones are such lap dogs!

Our friend Joyce Keeton, owner of The Dog Spot, is graciously fostering Oscar for us. She has grown quite attached to this long-legged little guy. Oscar got a red mohawk in honor of the holidays, ha!

We had a corner of the tent to set up and hung up our brand new banner! Thank you to Mike Dettman, owner of Sign-A-Rama in Snellville (and adopter of Captain, our very first Bliss rescue) for making and giving the banner to Bliss as a gift!

Ella's 5K Right to Hike a success!

Bliss took part in the Right to Hike event recently where we partnered with Pound Puppies N' Kittens to pair up runners with adoptable dogs. We had fantastic help from our crew of volunteers! From left to right: Carmen, Parry, Nancy, Rebekah, David, Robin, Alli, Kristen, Jennifer, and Jessie.

Our wonderful volunteers have contributed over 200 hours of work hours so far!!

Julie and Lindsey are new Bliss volunteers who have been just wonderful to us and to the doggies! They made homemade pumpkin dog treats for our recent adoption event at the Loganville Autumn Festival and they are coordinating some much needed fundraising events for us as well. Thank you, Julie and Lindsey!

Eddie and Jordan volunteered several hours today to love on the doggies (and kitties!) and had a blast! These two 18 year-old young men are fantastic. Eddie (left) took to Babe right away and Jordan (right) made sure that he earned Lady's trust and did a great job!

Jennifer takes Alex for a walk! Jennifer has been very generous with her time, helping us to take care of some of the administrative tasks for Bliss and reach out to the community as well (plus she's always up for hands-on time with the doggies!).

Pete here (Jennifer's husband)has a big soft heart! He built our new gate for the side yard, helping us to make even better use of the property for the dogs. Pete is holding Shirley, the little Chihuahua mix that wanted to be held all day at adoptions!

Nyasha is one of those rare teens who is very invested in volunteering on a regular basis for a cause she believes in. We are so lucky she chose Bliss! She is sitting here with Peanut, the 3-legged Chihuahua.

Nyasha's sister, Akaira, who is equally as motivated and kind, spends time volunteering at our place. She is petting on Shirley.

Bliss volunteer, Isaac, helping to repair a gutter along the dog yard. Isaac is spearheading the 5K event on Oct 10th and he also adopted our cruelty case rescue Pit, Hope, whom he has renamed Patience. Yay for Pit-lovers and thank you Isaac!

Bliss volunteers, Neftali and Denis, put in long hours building a new fence line to create another dog yard. They are holding Dottie (a Bliss rescue), Camo (one of our personal dogs), and Puck (a Bliss rescue). Nef & Denis were true heroes workin' in the heat - thank you for our fence!

Denis has been instrumental in our property renovation and came to us with a huge heart and desire to donate his skills to Bliss - we love you, Denis!

We are so fortunate to have several very kind and dedicated volunteers as we create the best of all possible worlds for our set up here at Bliss!
